What Not To Eat With Braces
When careful, you can likely eat most foods without causing any damage to your braces. However, there are some foods that can cause trouble to your braces. Additionally, it is important to be aware of nail biting and chewing on pens or pencils. Such habits as nail biting and eating certain foods can cause damage to your braces.

Foods To Avoid:

  • Gum
  • Caramel
  • Caramel apples
  • Licorice
  • Toffee
  • Hard candy
  • Bagels
  • Pizza crusts
  • Nuts
  • Carrots (uncooked, unless cut up)
  • Apples (unless cut up)
  • Pretzels
  • Chips
  • Popcorn

Minimize Sugar Intake
It is important to reduce the amount of sugar you consume, especially while wearing braces. We recommend that you eat less candy, cake, cookies or other desserts. It is also important to drink less soda and other sugary beverages to keep your teeth healthy and your braces at their best.
